“Life Rafts” were placed in abandoned pools and lakes to produce biodiversity & hosted a range of aquatic species: invertebrates, amphibians, turtles, water birds, wading birds and songbirds, setting up feedback food webs. Planting parts  clean the water, roots of plants create nurseries for fish, and the green plants on the island create nesting cover. (lots of additional habitats for species where there are no longer any). New York

Lynne created sculptures along the trail & a painter painted sculptures with patterns and colors of the local animals at the Giraffe Center outside of Nairobi because the property owners had realized if the children of Kenya did not learn to value and enjoy their wildlife species, there was no chance for wildlife to survive. Kenya 1993-94

Lynne and Patricia Lara mapped Medellin’s green space, most of which has been used for development, and former watercourses which have been sunk underground. Medellin has very little green or public space for a city in Latin America. This is a traveling installation  on a green wall blocking entrance from a defacto natural area now scheduled to become a condominium complex. The images of native trees and birds appeared here to provoke thought of the loss of these species in the city. Colombia 2005

Polar Bear platforms

Subject: This is a model of what Lynn proposes to do in The Poles. It is made out of Styrofoam. The parts are super glued together and the polar bears are toy figurines. The materials in which Lynne will be used is not sure. However, it is assumed that the shape was created to have maximum floating ability and optimized safety features. There is going to be a solar panel to keep a hole in the ice for breathing .
Content: The goal of building these platforms is to replace the disappearing sea ice in the Arctic and give the polar bears a place of substitution. Polar bears, walrus and seals are drowning and rapidly because of the rapid loss of ice. Global warming is turning these species into endangered species. It can serve as a safety net from predators and help with hunting. She exhibited the model in a roasting pan showing how global warming heats up and is destroying our climate.
Quote:“Hull’s empathy’s are in a sense kinesthetic, even visceral. Raised in the west, and always having lived there, she comes easily to considering large spaces, migration patterns, the habits of different species. She puts her sculpture at the service of wildlife, predicting their needs (with the expert help of biologists and other scientists) and projecting aid into sculptural form. Her work interacts with the place in which it is located, which is determined by context, calling attention to itself only after it has been integrated into layers of natural life. As wildlife is inseparable from its habitat, her sculpture cannot be seen as form alone. At the same time, if it could not be seen at all by those of us who look around for esthetic sustenance, it would not be art. She works in the tension between what is good for animals, birds, reptiles, and what looks good to humans.”—Lucy Lippard, THE NATURAL ORDER
